Issuance criteria in India expanded

9 July 2018

The I-REC Standard board has voted to expand issuance criteria in India. In the coming weeks the secretariat was instructed to expand issuance criteria in India to adhere to the following:

  • The environmental attribute for the generation has not been used for any RPO (Renewable Purchase Obligation) fulfilment.
    • Projects should not have supplied power under a long-term PPA under the RPO for the period for which IRECs are claimed.
    • The project should not be claiming RECs under the domestic REC system for the period for which IRECs are claimed.
  • The project does not avail any concessional Open Access benefits, which could have made it ineligible for RPO, for the period for which IRECs are claimed.
  • Projects could claim generation for a portion of their total generation by limiting issuance to generation within a specific time period.
