Carbon Capture Utilization and Storage (CCUS)
The I-REC Standard Foundation with Terrametric Solutions signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for the development of a Carbon Capture Utilisation and Storage (CCUS) Attribute Tracking Certificate system, called C-Capsule, that allows consumers to mitigate emissions while providing a revenue stream for CCUS activity.
C-Capsules are generated when a CCUS facility captures and durably sequesters a ton of CO2. These can then be traded and ultimately retired by a consumer allowing them to mitigate emissions. C-Capsule’s adherence to the I-REC Standard’s International Attribute Tracking Standard allows consumers to be confident that they are receiving science-based, independently verified, durable, and measurable CCUS certificates. However, currently, the CCUS market is in its infancy and industrial-scale CCUS processes require revenue streams to accelerate their growth.
Accreditation by the I-REC Standard Foundation will ensure that all stakeholders can be assured of a robust and reliable certification system to enable a net-zero emissions future.
