Carbon Dioxide Removal (CDR)

C-Capsule

The I-REC Standard Foundation with C-Capsule signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for the development of a Carbon Dioxide Removal (CDR) Attribute Tracking Certificate system that allows consumers to mitigate emissions while providing a revenue stream for CDR activity.

C-Capsule are generated when a CDR facility captures and durably sequesters a ton of CO. These can then be traded and ultimately retired by a consumer allowing them to mitigate emissions. C-Capsule’s adherence to the I-REC Standard’s International Attribute Tracking Standard allows consumers to be confident that they are receiving ex-post, faced-based, and independently verified CDR certificates. However, currently, the CDR market is in its infancy and industrial-scale CDR processes require revenue streams to accelerate their growth.

The C-Capsule is currently under consultation. This consultation has been created to get stakeholder feedback, their input helps to improve the C-Capsule Code and put it forward for Accreditation by the I-REC Standard Foundation Board.

Accreditation by the I-REC Standard Foundation will ensure that all stakeholders can be assured of a robust and reliable certification system to enable a net-zero emissions future.
