Open consultation on RE100’s Technical Criteria
RE100 has launched a public consultation on proposed changes to its Technical Criteria. The consultation proposes three changes, (i) make AIB membership the market boundary for Europe, (ii) accept physical cross-market procurement when certain conditions are met, and (iii) introduce a 15-year limit on commissioning dates for projects supplying electricity to RE100 members.
RE100 is a global initiative led by the Climate Group in partnership with CDP to drive change towards zero-carbon grids at scale. The RE100 Technical Criteria defines what counts as sourcing renewable electricity for the purpose of participation in the RE100 campaign, and RE100 companies make a public commitment to secure 100% of their electricity from renewable sources. The commitment covers electricity consumed from self-generation and electricity procured from a supplier or physical electricity market.
Adjustments to the Technical Criteria may have significant impacts on stakeholders participating in the I-REC ecosystem, and as a result, review and comments on the consultation are encouraged. The consultations will run until the 27th of May 2022. Check the RE100 events page for information on how to sign up and the participation form. Send all responses to firstname.lastname@example.org.
